OLYMPIC MEDALIST – DECATHLON
Bryan Clay
Bryan was born in Austin, TX but moved to Hawaii at a very young age. He started his athletic career at Castle High School and was recruited as a decathlete by Azusa Pacific University. After a chance meeting with Chris Huffins, Sydney Olympic bronze decathlon medalist, he dedicated himself to the 10 events with his Azusa Pacific University coach, Mike Barnett, by his side.
At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, Bryan took the Silver Medal in the Decathlon Events. He returned to the Olympic Games is Beijing in 2008 to win the Olympic Gold Medal where he acquired 240 points more than the silver medalist- it was the largest winning margin in 36 years. That year, he was also named USA Track & Field’s Jesse Owens Award winner and the Athlete of the Year by Track & Field News.
Since 2004, he has been hosting free track and field clinics for Hawaii youth and in 2007, held his first fundraising event for the Bryan Clay Foundation, which provides academic and athletic scholarships to underprivileged children in Hawaii.
